Is being a servant to God like being a lowly slave?
Most people look down on servants or slaves, but there is nothing shameful in being a servant. Everyone who has a boss is a servant. The vast majority of people on earth are servants of other people or a company. Very few are self-employed. All Christians who are servants (employees) are to serve their employers as if they are serving the Lord Himself (Ephesians 6.5; Colossians 3.22-25).
Every Christian is a servant of God and we should serve Him diligently with all of our heart, soul, mind and strength (Mark 12.30). But we are not slaves, in fact were are called "heirs of God" which makes us like royalty. But the Lord wants us to have a giving (servant's heart). Serving the Lord is a blessing. He wants us to put others before ourselves.
"And if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ" (Romans 8.17a).
Giving of our selves to others and to the Lord with grateful hearts is a small token of appreciation for Christ's enormous sacrifice on the cross at Calvary. It is by His grace, by His blood sacrifice that we are made free from an eternity of horror, which awaits the unsaved. We are blessed beyond measure and the least every believer can do is serve the Lord with a joyful heart.
