How can a Christian deal with envy and jealousy?
Envy and jealousy are bad qualities for anyone, but especially for a Christian. Jesus Christ died for us and we owe Him everything we have and all that we are. Being envious of others, especially the unsaved is evidence that one does not fully understand that he or she is a child of God who has eternal life and untold riches in heaven. The wealth and fame of the richest and most famous person on earth cannot compare to the least in the kingdom of heaven, and what we will have for all eternity. Remember that the unsaved, no matter how rich they are will have nothing in the hereafter, and they will spend all eternity in the Lake of Fire. Instead of being jealous of others who are not saved, we should feel pity for them and seek to share the gospel with them.
"Do not be envious of evil men, nor desire to be with them. Do not fret because of evildoers, nor be envious of the wicked" (Proverbs 24:1,19).
Christians should never be envious or jealous of their brothers and sisters in the Christ. If you are unsatisfied with your position in the church or your service to the Lord you need to get on your knees and ask the Lord to take away your jealousy. Then get into the Word of God every day. Pray more often and serve the Lord with more dedication. Stop comparing yourself to other people another situations.
God has a plan that is meant just for you. It might seem insignificant compared to some others roles in life but nothing we do for the Lord is insignificant. Rejoice in the Lord and keep your eyes on Him. Be respectful and kind toward those you wish to emulate and don't build-up or harbor unkind feelings because someone else may have more material wealth or better looks. Be grateful for what you have and thank God that you belong to Him and that you have a very bright eternal future.
"Wrath is cruel and anger a torrent, but who is able to stand before jealousy?" (Proverbs 27:4).
