How can I, as a new Christian, share my faith?
It is a common misconception (or excuse) that witnessing about the Christian faith should be left to those who have spent years studying the Bible and are ready for every possible question that may be posed. Unfortunately, that will never happen. The more you know about the Bible, the more you realize you don't know. There will always be questions for which you don't have the answers.
It interesting that a person will argue vehemently about which football team is the greatest but that same person will stand in a stadium and scream the praises of the players on the field. But if you place him in a church and he will clam up. Even if he claims to be a Christian, the idea of standing up for Christ with the same energy with which he supported his team the day before would never even cross his mind. Even more difficult for him would be the prospect of sharing his faith on a one-on-one basis.
The greatest call to a believer is to share the gospel:
"In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: encourage with great patience and careful instruction" (2 Timothy 4:1-2).
We have so little time to walk this earth, and a definite calling to share the gospel. How can we not answer that call? What right do Christians have to take the gift of salvation, which cost them nothing but cost the Lord everything, and then not share it with others as the Lord commands?
God's desire is that every person would come to a personal knowledge of Him and be saved. It is a blessing and a privilege that He has enlisted us to help that come to pass.
It is not difficult to tell someone about what Jesus Christ has done for you if you are prepared for to share your testimony. Begin by thinking of a way to describe your personal relationship with Christ and have some Scriptures to back up what you plan to say. The best thing to do is speak right from your heart.
Here are some simple verses that would be good to write down and keep with you to use when witnessing. These make-up what is commonly known as, "The Romans Road":
Romans 3:23: Everyone has sinned.
Romans 6:23: The penalty for our sin is death.
Romans 5:8: Jesus Christ died as payment for our sins.
These verses paint the picture of Man's need for a Savior and Christ's perfect fulfillment of that need. Just remember: You don't need all of the answers, just enough of them. Also, you need the Holy Spirit who can reveal God's truth to you in a time of great need (See Matthew 10:19-20.) He will guide you and help you say the words that you will need to benefit those you are witnessing to. Trust that He will help you, knowing that He dwells within you.
"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. And teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you." (Matthew 28:19).
