Is abortion really murder?
The alarming statistics now show
that an innocent, unborn child is
killed by abortion every 22 seconds
in the United States. It seems as
though this society is uneducated
about the truth about abortion and
assumes that since it is legal, it
must be morally acceptable as well.
How many people do you think
really know what a fetus looks like
at any given gestational age or what
type of brain function or heart
function that fetus possesses?
Surprisingly, scientists and
lawmakers do know the answers
to these questions, but
unfortunately they have done little
about it. In 1981, at a Senate
Judiciary Subcommittee hearing, this
question was asked of geneticists
and biologists: "When does human
life begin?"
Dr. Micheline M. Mathews-Roth,
Harvard Medical School, referenced
medical textbooks that claimed that
human life begins at conception. Dr.
Jerome Lejeune, "Father of Modern
Genetics," stated, "To accept the
fact that after fertilization has
taken place, a new human has come
into being is no longer a matter of
taste or opinion ... it is plain
experimental evidence." Dr. Hymie
Gordon, Chairman Department of
Genetics at the Mayo Clinic, added:
"By all the criteria of modern
molecular biology, life is present
from the moment of conception."
These were just a few of the
statements made by world-renowned
professionals. Whether or not the
law says that abortion is murder,
the Bible clearly holds the life of
the unborn as supremely important.
"For you [God] created my inmost
being; you knit me together in my
mother's womb" (Psalm 139:13).
"Before I formed thee in the
belly I knew thee; and before thou
camest forth out of the womb I
sanctioned thee, and I ordained thee
a prophet unto the nations"(Jeremiah
1:5).
"Thou shalt not kill" (Exodus
20:13).
