A Prayer for Change
By Ron Graham

“For my love they are my adversaries: but I give myself unto prayer. And they have rewarded me evil for good, and hatred for my love. Set thou a wicked man over him: and let Satan stand at his right hand. When he shall be judged, let him be condemned: and let his prayer become sin. Let his days be few; and let another take his office,” Psalm 109:4-8. King David had enemies, and David’s enemies were also enemies of God. Psalm 109 is David’s prayer against an un-named enemy and it could have been Saul, Absalom, or a nation. In the same way, Christians have an enemy and our enemy is God’s enemy. Our government is filled with people who follow Satan and just like their leader they too are bent on destroying those who are called by God’s name, and believers need to humbly pray for God’s intervention.

“Father in Heaven, our present leadership in this country is bent on destroying all vestiges of freedom. The man who occupies the Oval Office is undoubtedly being led by Satan. Let his days in office be few, and let another, a godly man take the reins of leadership. We make amends O Lord, we repent of our past sins and though they are many it is with earnest and heavy hearts that we ask You, O Lord, to act upon our prayers today. We pray for the healing of our land and for Your intervention in all our lives and in our human system of governance. We ask You, Father, to bless our land with change, but with Your change, Lord, not man’s notion of how life should be. We pray that our hearts and minds would be devoted to You, O God. We pray for a godly leadership in this country. Please Father allow a godly man to assume the office of President of the United States of America, a man who would lead us in accordance to Your will, a man who would pray with us “Thy will be done”. We pray, Father, that You would place a man over us who will make it his goal to stand up for our Lord Jesus Christ in all circumstances. Father this is our heartfelt appeal to you, and as always it’s through the precious name of our Lord and Savior Jesus the Christ we pray. Amen.”

The above scripture verse was sent to me a few weeks ago. I thought, “How appropriate it would be to build a prayer around that verse asking God for the restoration of our country and for the presidency with that verse”. Many of you share my concerns for this country and I know you’re praying that same prayer or at least one very similar. Believers must focus on prayer especially since we are surrounded by overwhelming proof we are in the last days here on earth. We must be serious in our convictions so that God will hear our prayers and send relief from the evil that currently holds sway over us. If we mindlessly mouth prayers without a fully convicted heart then God may well respond in kind. I say shame on us if we water down our prayers. In the end we’ll get what we deserve. We may already be receiving our due.

Analysts will claim the worldwide recession is over and everything is getting better, then they turn around and the very next day it’s that same old tired doom and gloom hitting us smack between the eyes. We may not be able to trust analysts anymore than we can trust the wind to cease blowing from the south. But we can trust the word of God, and we can discern the signs of the times. How many warnings are we given throughout God’s word that present us with a nice clear picture of what to expect in the very near future? If God’s children would actually believe His written word and study it diligently we wouldn’t be in the mess we’re in today. Every believer should be keenly aware of the evil facing us on a daily basis. Instead of our continuing decent down that slippery slope we might just be seeing a more positive perspective confronting us. Sadly we are not only on a slippery slope, but we’re rapidly picking up speed.

We’ve all made mistakes in the past and we will no doubt make new ones in the future, but one thing we can resolve to do right now is to refuse to make the same mistakes twice. Electing evil people over and over again to run our government can only be classified as a huge mistake. Accountability in government is the responsibility of all Americans.

Patriotism and loyalty to one’s country is all well and good, even necessary, but for the believer it is essential to be completely devoted to Jesus Christ. Many of our fellow citizens have put their lives on the line for their country and many have died for that cause so their families as well as their countrymen can live in peace and safety. Freedom is costly, and anytime a patriot loses his or her life for the cause of freedom we who remain should do all we can to keep their memory alive while preserving what they died for.

But preserving our freedom today is quickly becoming an exercise in futility. Freedom is easily distorted and can be eliminated through the apathy of any countries citizenry, and removed by those who would trade freedom for servitude. The most important factor or cause or devotion we can possibly be involved with, is our declaration of love for our savior Jesus Christ, and the promotion of His Gospel. The fact that we have freedom in Christ is the only true freedom we will ever have while we’re occupying these bodies and this land.

Many Christians have been put to death for the cause of Christ; many more will lose their lives in the future so Christ can be preached continually. Without freedom the believers work here on earth would be much more difficult and costly. Because America has been a free country for the last 233 years, the word of God has been spread throughout the world. Jesus has been preached continually and will continue to be so if believers will stand up for their Lord. The only thing that can really stop us is apathy.

We can all see that attitudes are changing in this country with regards to Christianity. Attitudes now center on godlessness and even hatred toward Christians, and those attitudes will be detrimental to our freedom and our ability to spread the word of God unencumbered. In many parts of the country there are police officers that will arrest you for just praying in public or distributing Gospel tracts. Some are being arrested and jailed for preaching on a sidewalk or in a park, and what’s their crime? Proclaiming the message of salvation through Christ our Lord. A decade or so ago sidewalk preaching was just as normal as breathing. “Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.” Matthew 10:16. Believers will need to become ever so crafty with regards to our presentation of the Gospel lest we all be thrown to the lions.

America would be much more conducive to Christians if Christians would take the land back. A good way to do that is to get God involved. “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14. I know this verse is passed around a lot these days and I’ve used it myself in previous commentaries, but listen to your God as He speaks the above verse to you. Can you not see the tears in His eyes as He admonishes his people? Many think this verse was only for the Jews but the Jews were never called by His name. They are Jews, Hebrews, Israelites, Zionists but they were never called by God’s name. Jews aren’t even permitted to speak the name of God. Christians are called by His name, so this verse is for those of us who claim salvation through Christ and Christ alone.

Pray without ceasing. That’s Paul’s admonition to us. We are to be in constant communication with our Father in Heaven. Prayer is so important to our walk with Christ that if His people would just humble themselves, seek His Face, and turn from their wicked ways He would heal their land. South Africa , Europe, Asia, Australia , South America, North America, Greenland , you name it God will restore your land if you will only humble yourselves and turn from your evil ways.

I can only conclude that there must be a huge lack of faith in God, or few believe that the above verse was meant for them. Why? Because our lands are far from experiencing any real healing. I know for a fact that prayers for our country and our leaders here in America are part of the daily devotions for many of my brethren. But here’s an addendum to our prayer life. If we have leaders who are trying to run our country into the ground for some sinister reason, then besides prayer Christians must take some physical action. America ’s Christians must stand up for their rights or they will have no rights to stand up for. We must stand against tyranny. In America we can accomplish huge changes through peaceful revolts, just by casting a vote against our elected officials who are bent on turning a blind eye and a closed ear toward our voices.

It’s extremely important that we who are called by God’s name get involved and stay involved with the process of making changes in regards to those who currently lord over us. It’s not necessary to keep the same old tired souls in office term after term. If we’re aware of how our representatives vote on every issue then when we don’t like the way they vote, we tell them so. Then if they continue to vote against our wishes, we must revolt against them with our voice and our vote. If Americans really cared about their future they would make the necessary changes. But it must be important enough to us or we will never get involved. It seems that only when our lives or livelihoods are threatened with disaster that we finally get angry enough to protest.

Currently the majority of our government officials are ungodly. We’ve voted in a majority of democrats and they have taken it upon themselves to make some of the most sweeping evil changes this country as ever seen. The republicans aren’t helping matter as they side with the opposition on issues they shouldn’t. This is how you and I know we need to make changes in our leadership. When the elected leaders no longer listen to their constituents it becomes necessary to eliminate them through our electoral process.

Godly change is what’s needed in America . You and I can, if we all ask God for help, initiate that change confidently. If you are reading this commentary and you think it’s time to get off the stick the first thing you must do is get registered to vote. Then make sure you know where your communities balloting locations are. Mark your calendars with the date of the election and then tell all your family and friends to do the same thing. If our current leadership won’t listen then let’s kick them out of our offices. Remember the offices that house the people we elect belong to us, they are ours and we select who will occupy them.

Across this land there is a satanic deception that many just don’t see. Many people who are eligible to vote don’t, or won’t. Christians would hold the majority vote in America if we would all vote. Those who never vote have no voice in the process. We can effect change if we so desire to do so. But it must be paramount on our minds and we must be resigned to help in forging changes in our government leadership or it will never happen, and the evil that currently permeates our land will continue unabated.

“Let his days be few; and let another take his office.” Psalm 109:8. This prayer of David’s is perfectly pointed at all who would try their hand at destroying our great nation. God stands on the side of the righteous He will not stand with our enemies. We are a nation of believing, caring, giving individuals who know the difference between right and wrong. We currently have the wrong leaders in place; let’s determine, once and for all, to only elect godly men and women to manage our government.

God bless you all,

Ron Graham
